Matthew Starr
CEO/Company Secretary

Over the past 20 years, Matthew has held senior leadership positions in dynamic and fast-paced independent livestock agribusiness enterprises based in South Australia, building and implementing strategy, managing domestic Stock and Station agencies operations, as well as ultimate accountability for financial measurement and reporting to owners of the businesses. During that time, Matthew has been a board member and Vice Chairman of ALPA for nearly 10 years and SSAC board member for 9 years before joining full time as CEO in April 2017. 

He is married to wife Nikki, with two daughters, Jemma and Erin whom keep them both entertained and busy. As an SANFL Umpire life member, Matthew enjoys watching AFL football. Other interests include following the children's sport and fishing at his family shack.

Sheena Bransgrove
Administration Manager

Sheena is Malaysian born and educated in the UK. Lived in South Africa for 8 years before emigrating to Australia in 1987. Her employment background has been varied across education, the airline industry, advertising, marketing, sales and medical environments, however she has held the position of Administration Manager at SSAC since joining the Co-op in late 2010. 

In her spare time, Sheena is a fanatical Sydney Swans supporter, riding the highs and lows of the Swans AFL season. With her family and friends, she loves to travel and experience adventures.

Emma Bransgrove
Administration 

Emma was born in Melbourne and grew up in Albury, before moving to Sydney. She spent a year and a half living in Orange working as a Primary School Teacher in a rural school in the Orange region. She has a Primary School Teaching background but has recently decided to make a career change into business administration.

Outside work, her interests include looking after her lively puppy and cat, going for coastal bush walks, completing creative projects and spending time with her niece and nephews.



 

SSAC Board Members 

Don Wright
Chairman, Orange

Don Wright is a licenced real estate, stock and station, business agent, auctioneer and rural property specialist well known throughout the eastern states. Don operated his own company in the city of Orange for many years selling sheep and cattle at the local saleyards on a weekly basis. He has had ministerial appointments with the Office of Fair Trading and Department of Agriculture, is past president of the Orange Stock Selling Agents Association, has been a country councillor with the Real Estate Employers Federation dealing with industrial matters, an industry TAFE teacher and is currently president of the local Rural Fire Service.

Don was Treasurer of the NSW Stock and Station Agents Association for 25 years and on the board of the NSW SSA and ALPA for over 30 years. He was also made a life member of Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association in recognition of his contribution to the industry. Do has been chairman of the Board for the past 14 years and is committed along with the Board to protecting members against financial loss due to default by abattoirs and feedlots. 


 

Ian Harrison
Director, Wagga

Ian was born in Gundagai NSW, where he was schooled at Adelong Central through to Intermediate Certificate (then year 10) on completion in 1963. He then joined R H Blake & Co Stock and Station Agents, Wagga, under Dick Blake SNR. Working through grades and studies in accounting until August 1999 when on the death of Mr Duck Blake JNR purchased the business of RH Blake & Co. 

He has since carried on the business until present time, completing 55 years of service to the livestock industry. Ian has played an integral part in the Stock and Station Agents Co-op as a Directors for the past 15 years.


 

Tim Walsh
Director, Gunnedah

Tim is a second-generation Stock and Station agent from Gunnedah in North West NSW. After early schooling in Gunnedah, he attended secondary school in Sydney at Knox Grammar School and studied economics at University in Armidale. Tim started in agency at Elders in Brewarrina in the mid 1990's and after a number of positions returned to the family business Fleming and Ross at the end of the 1990's, becoming principal in 2012. He then reopened a Ray White rural franchise in 2017.

His family has always been greatly involved with the local community, especially the rugby club "the Gunnedah Red Devils" where he was a player, administrator and coach, the highlight being coaching Gunnedah to their first grand final success since the mid 1970's in 2012.

Currently Tim is the principal of Fleming and Ross and Ray White Rural Gunnedah as well as being a Director of SSAC since January 2011, a Director of the Gunnedah Stock and Station Agents Association and President of the Gunnedah Junior Rugby Club. Tim is married to Nikki since 2002, with two children Annie 13 and Michael 


 

Peter DeGaris
Director, Penola

Peter was born and raised at Naracoorte, schooled at Naracoorte and attended secondary school in Adelaide. On completion of schooling, Peter joined EldersGM as a 4th generation Stock and Station Agent. Conscripted for National Service for two years, including some time in Malaysia and Vietnam.

On completion of National Service, he rejoined prior employer at Loxton, Peterborough, Strathalbyn, Meningie and Penola. In 1988, he left Elders to start his own Private Stock and Station company - Thomas DeGaris & Clarkson where he recently retired in 2016 to run a family farm at Bool Lagoon. 

Peter is currently President of Coonawarra/Penola RSL, Board member of SSAC since 2014 and a Legatee. 


 

Matthew Geaney
Director, Charters Towers

Matthew offers over a decades experience in the rural/residential real estate and livestock industry. Since 2003, Matthew has sold a vast range of properties and has developed an in-depth understanding of rural properties and livestock throughout the North Queensland region.

A true local to Charters Towers, Matthew grew up with the family business from its inception in 1986, gaining the knowledge of real estate and livestock from a very young age. After finishing school, Matthew continued his education at James Cook University in Townsville completing a Degree in Commerce and majoring in Accounting. After university, Matthew worked with Coutts Redington Chartered Accountants in Townsville before moving to London for work. 

He joined the team at Geaney's full time in 2003 bringing his learned knowledge and past experience to help the business grow. Matthew travelled to the United States of America (Billings Montana) to fast track his auctioneering skills which flows through to today with weekly cattle sales and stud sales along with real estate and goods and chattels auctioneering. 


 

Brendan Kelly
Director, Dalby / Monto

Brendan has been in the stock and station Agency business for over 10 years and is operating a privately owned firm out of the Dalby office. KellCo Rural Agencies service a wide sector of the beef industry throughout the Darling Downs and wider Burnett area, offering all facets of livestock marketing with paddock-to-paddock sales, direct consignment to feedlots and abattoirs, Auctions Plus, selling relationships with Dalby and Roma Saleyards and the sole agent of the EU accredited Saleyards at Monto.

The Monto Selling Complex is highly regarded as a very solid Selling Centre where KellCo Rural Agencies hold fortnightly Fat and Store sales and feature Prime & Store cattle sales in addition to feature Prime and Store cattle sales throughout the year. They also proudly represent multiple Stud clients for Private Bull Sales throughout the year, in addition to our Annual All-Breeds Bull, Horse & Working Dog Sale held at the Monto Saleyards.
